Title: CTConnect2 -The Course Management Tool that Administrators Can’t Do Without

Presenters: Amy Huang, Technical Analyst, UBC IT
William Ono, Programmer Analyst, UBC IT

Description: CTConnect2 is an online course management tool (J2EE based web application) developed to provide the capability of administering and managing online WebCT Vista course sections for Faculty and e-Learning administrators.

Since UBC’s e-strategy was established in 2001, online learning has continued to grow and evolve in the UBC community. One of the key components in the e-Learning initiative in conjunction with having a centralized online learning environment was the establishment of a tool that was developed by the UBC-IT Learning Applications team in collaboration with the Course Management System Administration Resource Team (CART), members from Faculty/Department eLearning units, to provide a medium to facilitate course creation, population and management in an uncomplicated way.

CTConnect2 is a complex application that is integrated with the Student Information System, CWL System and the Blackboard Vista Architecture. This application has been developed using JSP and Java code deployed under the Tomcat open source web application server.

CTConnect2 has been designed so that it applies security constraints configured in Vista that will allow users to access only those learning contexts that they’ve been given permission to see.

Come see us and learn more on how we developed a cutting edge tool in the world of Vista Course management.
